Migrating Business Application Configs using Application Data Sets with Data Migration Workbench

Track: Technical & Reporting

Session Number: 3034
Date: Fri, Oct 21st, 2022
Time: 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Room: Room 7A

Description:

Historically, for the most part, Data Mover has or is used to migrate application configuration data (meta data) for object data that cannot be migrated using Application Designer or other tools. Data Mover has been used to migrate Budget Allocation Setups, nVision Reports, Combo Edit Rules, and Message Catalog definitions. However, Data Mover does not offer any viable data comparision or validation - it simply moves data - relying and depending on the developer, admins, and function analyst to manual perform comparison and validation externally.
Using Application Data Sets with Data Migration Workbench offers that ability to not only export the data from one environment to another but also provides data comparison and validation of how the data being importing will modify the existing data.
The is presentation will show how UNC-CH used ADS and DMW technologies to replace the use of Data Mover as our tool of choice for performing updates to our budget allocation configuration settings.
